COVID-19 Update 10/30/20

October 30, 2020

Subject:  Continuation of MS/HS Hybrid Schedule through 11/13

Dear Central Cambria Families,

Although we had intended for all of our middle and high school students to have the opportunity to attend five days days per week starting on Monday, November 2nd for in-person instruction, recent cases of COVID-19 within the district have made that transition unwise and unfeasible at this time.  In addition to the few cases previously reported, we have recently learned that an administrator and a support staff member have both tested positive for COVID-19.  Although these individuals do not have contact with students, CDC and PA Department of Health requirements have led to multiple staff members faced with mandated quarantine in order to mitigate the spread of the virus.  Those individuals have already been identified and notified.  While we certainly understand that virtual learning is no replacement for quality in-person instruction, our primary focus is on the safety of our students, staff, and community.  Our teachers will continue to do the exceptional work they have been doing, balancing in-person and virtual instruction simultaneously.  Continuing with the hybrid schedule for the secondary schools will aid in preventing mandated closures during which no in-person instruction can occur.  Moreover, staying the course may also help our athletic and extracurricular activities to continue without similar disruption.  The Central Cambria Board of School Directors will discuss the schedule at their November 9th meeting and may make changes and/or further recommendations at that point. Any such changes would take effect on November 16th.  Please stay safe and do your best to help mitigate the spread of the virus.

Sincerely,

Jason Moore
